The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

As any significant awards ceremony nears, you'll find an outcry to include fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and fill the spirits of fans with niche passions.

Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are tabletop games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise in the world of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they barely qualify one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, each quite distinct: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles released every year that have no home during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely that year
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment recently
  • Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're small games, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

Restating the point, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
